THE 200 CLUB

If you give a man a fish,
he will eat for a day.

But if you teach a man to fish,
he will eat for a lifetime.

Vera Goodman’s Story Circle Project was founded on this philosophy. The real strength of the approach is in its simplicity and the ease with which local people can become facilitators to others.

Vera Goodman’s Story Circle approach to learning has the power to change education around the world. And that’s exactly what we are working towards!

For the last 2 ½ years, the Story Circle Project has been working in Gambella, Ethiopia with more than 100 refugees who haven’t had access to schooling in the area. Facilitators have used this educational model to teach reading and writing and comprehension in a variety of subjects, tapping into the learners’ creative and imaginative abilities.  Over this time, we’ve seen amazing results which are steering us in exciting new directions.

We recently graduated our students as they have become exceptionally competent in their scholastic development.  They are now able to start Story Circles themselves and we are going to support them as they initiate their own small Circles in the city.  It will cost about $200 a year to support a student to do this.  We have started THE 200 CLUB and we invite you to be part of this ground-breaking initiative.

Simultaneously we are going take the Project into the nearby Kule Refugee Camp. The money from this fundraiser will also support this work.

Our Story Circle movement can easily be spread around the world by the communities where it is introduced. We will prove that if you teach one to fish, they can teach the entire village to do so.  Vera Goodman is truly a visionary.  At 87 years old, she continues to make this world a better place with her model. THE 200 CLUB will ensure her important work continues.

Members of THE 200 CLUB will receive a tax receipt for $200.00 as well as videos and information on the work as it progresses, having satisfaction in knowing that they are making real change in the world.
